Surviving immigrant parents 101

Published on 13 April 2023 at 22:41

Immigrant parents, where do I even start. Everybody loves them, everybody admires them for their bravery in being able to move and adapt to a completely new country. Their kids, however, will tell you something completely different. I mean, I have immigrant parents and they are extremely cool and fun to be with, but there are some situations that just pull the trigger on their bad side. There are a lot of situations in which this will happen, and I will show you how to survive them.

Getting a grade lower than a 95

See, immigrant parents always want you to succeed. I mean, every parent does. But the amount of wiggle room you get depends on your parents. I got lucky with my parents accepting one or two b's, if they are in a good mood. But, if there is one thing in common with all immigrant parents, its that they will ask you "What happened to the rest of the points?"

I got a 98 on one of my recent tests and instead of a "Good Job!" I got a "Why didn't you get a hundred, why a 98?" Answering that question is almost impossible, since anything you say can trigger the angry side and you will regret it for most likely the rest of your day.

Solution: Just accept that you undermined their expectations and move on, change topics if you must, or even include a "I still have an A."

When you are with your friends vs Just you

Immigrant parents have two personalities, one when you are with your friends, and one where you are without your friends. Your friends always see the good side of your parents, no yelling, nobody is yelling at anybody, no harmful jokes, that stuff. But, if they know your friends really well, then they will show there normal side.

One time, a couple of my friends came over, and my parents didn't know them so they were acting all chill and didn't say anything to me or ask me to do anything. For the first time in a while, they let me be and actually let me have fun with the boys. Then, I decided to invite some other friends maybe a couple weeks later, and my parents know these guys so well, cause family friends and stuff. The minute I sit down with them I hear the "PRATHAM!" That's when literally everything went downhill. I was asked to make the rice, fold my laundry, and mow the lawn. BRO I JUST INVITED MY FRIENDS TO COME OVER AND NOW YOU ARE MAKING ME DO ALL THIS :((((((. (yea i did do all these and as soon as i was done they left so even worse).

Solution: I literally don't know I have tried everything and yet I still manage to get the same results :(

Conclusion

Immigrant parents are a W, but make sure you don't do anything stupid, or else it will go downhill immediately

(This is from a guy's standpoint I don't know how girls are treated)
