What is Art?

Not like Art as in drawing and all that, but art as in everyday life activities. What do I define as art? Me personally, I think art is a class that everyone takes that provides them the ability to show their true selves and who they can really be. But, that's what I think of art on the surface level. Deep down, I relate art to the sport of golf. I've played golf for close to 10 years now, but began really trying to be good as a freshman in high school. It was then that I realized that this was one of the more complex sports out there. I remember as a 7th grader, my dad pushing me to practice every single day to get good at the sport, telling me what I should do with my swing and what I shouldn't do. He honestly pissed me off as a young kid, because I did not want to play golf at all because he made me hate it. Looking back on it five years from now, I really wish I had taken his advice and actually tried to be good at golf. The thing about the golf swing is that it is very complicated, your hands, arms, and body must move in rhythm, but your lower half of the body should start the swing. Last year, I went to a club fitter to get my entire bag fitted, from the putter to the driver. Fitting basically means how my swing is, my clubs will be adjusted in a way where I can constantly swing like that and make good contact and hit the ball good. The one thing I took away from that club fitting, is the ridiculous amount of times I was told to change where I placed my hands, what part of the body I was moving, move my lower body through the swing better. It was a whole lot of change to my swing, rather than to the clubs. That's when I realized, that art isn't about the canvas and the type of paint or colors to use and what the idea is, it's about the person being able to put that idea to use, and using their skills to accurately replicate their idea, just like how it's about the golfer itself and not about the clubs they have and use. For me personally, the game of golf is therapy for me. For some people, art is a way to decompress, to just let your thoughts flow and relax. When I don't need to seek therapy for golf, golf is that way to decompress for me. That honestly sums up what I think art is. No, it's not just a class anybody can take. Art is a form of therapy, in numerous ways for all different people. It could be getting that one sandwich from only this deli, or getting that one Starbucks drink, or even that one sport that takes your mind of everything
